KBHC announces its 10th Anniversary and the Hopeline 99 Club

Dear Friends of the Kristin Brooks Hope Center,

1-800-SUICIDE and the Kristin Brooks Hope Center marks its 10th Anniversary this year.  To date we have connected three million individuals in crisis to help and hope and saved more than 5,000 lives!

As we enter our second decade, your continued support is needed to ensure that the confidentiality of every caller is protected.  With your help, we have overcome tremendous obstacles, however, because we are totally privately funded, we need to prove to the FCC that we are capable of supporting 1-800-SUICIDE to keep control of the line from being turned over to the federal government.

That comes down to money. In addition to our existing lines of support we have created the "Hopeline 99 Club". We have 70 members so far. Some are schools or churches doing memorial walks called Destination Hope . Some are teams of supporters. We are asking you to help form a team or group to become one of the 99 CLUB members or groups who will pledge to raise $400 each month to support 1-800-SUICIDE.

The money you raise or donate will not only be used to pay the phone bill that connects about 50,000 callers each month to the Hopeline Network, but will also be used to pay for training of online crisis counselors who will provide the same support via the Internet chat rooms.  This is where the young people of today reach out for help. The money raised can be done as a living memorial.

If we can organize that effort into a steady form of support and have it in writing before July 20th, the FCC will not have a leg to stand on in taking 1-800-SUICIDE away from us, and permanently assigning it to the federal government.  The success of 1-800-SUICIDE is based on individuals in crisis knowing that any personal identifiable information is kept strictly confidential.

 There is a counter on the www.hopeline.com site to show how close we are to achieving this level of support. Check in to see where we are today.

Seven things members of the Hopeline 99 Club will receive;

  • Input on KBHC's advisory board as to how the line is run (if desired),
  • A virtual plaque on our www.hopeline.com web site,
  • A real plaque to hang on your wall,
  • A Hopeline business card to use in your outreach to support our programs,
  • Access to our DC office to use when you come to DC,
  • Support to set up meetings with your congressional representatives,
  • A Hopeline email address with yourname@hopeline.com

When you activate your profile a login page becomes available, as well a members area with a few features, like changing personal info or changing password or editing profile. Picture uploading is available as well so you can put a memorial picture, your picture, or any image that defines why you are working to help save 1-800-SUICIDE from being a government owned and run hotline.

Our volunteer staff and Board remain committed to preserving confidential suicide prevention.  Your past efforts have sustained us financially and are the source of our perseverance.  Your action today assures our sustainability!

Best always,
