Know The Facts

We know numbers are boring, but they do represent real people just like you. Statistics enable us to understand that we are not alone. They point out the serious effects of this disease, so read up. Share these numbers with your friends and family so they too will understand just how real this disease is.

That figure only accounts for those that reported their disease, the numbers are probably much higher. There are some interesting statistics surrounding depression. For instance, the younger you are the longer you will delay seeking treatment. Mainly due to a lack of understanding about treatment, embarrassment and a desire to handle the problem on your own. This means that 80% of people who knew they were depressed suffered an average of 4+ years until they sought treatment. Why wait? 80-90% of people that sought treatment recovered and now lead happy lives.

The cost of this disease is also astounding. Please look into this site to get an idea of how widespread depression is. Also check out the following links for information on manic depressive statistics.
